Our road trip around the south coast of WA with Jamanji (a 20+ year old subaru with acceloration problems) has begun!!
We headed south of Mandurah towards Bunbury, our first stop. We didn't go into the town as we had only been travelling for an hour, but we did stop into the famous farmer market which was reccomended to us. While called a farmers market, it reminded me of a huge farm shop like we'd have at home filled with local produce. But it was still on a scale like i'd never seen before. We took this opportunity to grab lunch of things we had never tried before - I had my first dragon fruit (which I can only describe as a sweet, milder kiwi). It would have been super easy to spend a fortune in their on different health food products and vegan treats.
We packed our lunch away in Jamanji, and carried on the trip towards Injidup where we visted the beach. We walked down the shallow cliff edge to the beach where we sat and had our lunch before messing about in the rocks.
After an hour or so, we jumped back into Jumanji and continued the drive south. Our next stop was Margaret River - which is infact a town as well as a river. We went to Margaret river mouth beach, which is where the river meets the ocean. One of the most colourful beaches i've been to due to the vibrant mixture of green with blue where the fresh water meets the salt water.
We stopped and chilled here for a bit, including having a swim and quickly lost track of time. Leaving just before dark, we headed to our first campsite of this mini-trip.
The campsite was in Blackwood forest - a National park East of Margeret River. The campground was positioned in the bow of the river, undernath a canopy of trees and we pitched up surrounded by a surprisng number of other campers.
This leads to my favourite part of the day, while Bobbie might describe it as the worst...
We headed to the nearest tavern for dinner at 20:30 ish, but on arrival were told that food service stopped at 20:00. The next nearest food place was an hour back towards where we cam from, so, beer and pork scratchings for dinner it was! We sat and enjoyed our pints on an empty stomach in the tavern before heading back to the campsite, where I served us peanut butter sandwhiches in the front seats of Jumanji before heading to bed in the tent for the first night!
