Bossington is a small village in Exmoor National park, just a few miles from Porlock. It is centred in the National Trusts Honicote Estate, and, do you know what always comes with the National Trust? Tea rooms and car parks!
The National Trust do a great job of making remote areas public friendly, and thats exactly what they have done at Bossington. Although, the car park isn't very big, so i'd reccomened avoiding visiting during peak times.
Once you've parked your car there are two main areas to explore; the coastal path, or the village. If you cross the bridge across the river, you'll follow the river along field and woodland boundaries for less than half a mile before emerging at the coast! Now, you can either continue down the path onto the beach, with the option to walk left along the front leading you to Porlock Weir (pictured below). Or...
....If you'd rather see this view (above) than walk in it, continue on up the hill! You'll meet a rocky ledge with an old fort on your right handside which you can explore in too.

If this walk hasn't been long enough to this point, there is the option to follow the path further up the hill to join the South West coastal path (top-tip - follow the little acorns on sign posts, these are the logos for all coastal path routes!). Ya never know, you might just end up in Minehead!
Now for the bit that may interest the non-walkers. The Village. If you've come for the scenic views and cute instagram pictures without all the mud and hills, don't worry, I've got you!
This time head back out the carpark the way you came in. Turn left or right down this road to have your eyes filled with beautiful 'postcard cottages', made all the better with the rolling hills in the background.
Finally, it wouldn't be the perfect quaint village without a cream tea spot. Kitnor's tea room is placed in the heart of Bossington serving your well deserved scones to end your afternoon of exploring. Or, why not stop in the post office for a cup of tea and a stamp? Bossington has it all.
Happy local travels!
