Volunteer Ideas
Hello Slothees!
Do you need some help finding what volunteering is right for you? Well, hopefully, you can find some clarity on this page.
There are a few reasons why one might get themselves in volunteering, whether that to fill time, give back to someone or something, or to gain new skills and experiences. Whichever the reason, it's always worth the natural sense of accomplishment and self-confidence boost!
Working in, and for the protection of the environment is a competitive field. I mean, who could blame people wanting to spend more time in the natural world, wanting to protect it, and getting paid for it at the same time? But this can make job hunting in the environmental sector very challenging (if you’d like more help on deciding what job ole is right for you, visit the ‘job hunting’ page).

Volunteering is not only a hugely valuable tool to help you stand out from the crowd during the job application process but also a great way to help you decide which career path is right for you. Call it ‘try before you apply’ if you will!
But time is valuable and we don’t want to be spending it somewhere that is going to have little benefit. If you’d like to end up working as a Zoo Keeper, spending your time volunteering in a charity book store, whilst valuable, is not going to give you desirable skills for employment as a keeper. Continuing with the zookeeper example, it’s also important to realise that volunteering as a Zookeeper is the only way to gain the skills required to be one. Time spent in any animal management setting, directly caring for animals would be of great value, so try not to feel defeated if you cannot find direct experience.
